Using Data Cabling in the Houston Museum District

Data Cabling in the Houston Museum District

More than Just Phone Systems

Using data cabling in the Houston museum district seems like an unusual task for a digital phone service provider like Amtel.  Upon reflection, however, it isn’t as unusual as it seems. Our data cabling has more functions than connecting to phone systems. We were able to connect the lighting at the Houston Museum of Natural Science for the Wiess Energy Hall 3.0 Exhibit. As a result, we were able to create lighting they needed for their exhibit.

How was Data Cabling in the Houston Museum District Used

In other words, how was Amtel’s data cabling used to help with the Weiss Energy Hall 3.0 Exhibit? The answer is much simpler than you’d expect. We were able to run over 800 individual Cat5 and Fiber cables for individualized control of 800 separate lighting units. The lighting cables ran in cable trays and across the ceiling for not only safety but artistic reason as well. This utilized four cable distribution centers. The cables had be black since the they ran across a black ceiling. Using black cables allowed us to hide the exhibit’s energy support.

Overall, the cabling allowed the museum to get the lighting system they needed for their exhibit. Their exhibit will include artificial lighting to recreate a sunrise and sunset during different times of the day. There will also be other features with oil, gas, wind, solar power, and throughout the large museum exhibit.

There’s More to Data Cabling

As shown above, data cabling isn’t just for interpersonal communication. There are many uses for it, besides telephonic communication. It is the industry standard in many hi-tech lighting applications and industries. It provides individualized control of lighting operations for many industries, including museums, sports, arts, and even corporate applications.

So how did it our cabling system help with their lighting? The way cables work is sending information from one end to the other. In a sense, it is a form of communication when looking at Weiss Energy Hall’s lighting. Individually, their lights have a specific command that’s send to them. Essentially, the lights are communicating with the support center to do a specific command.

How Can We Help You?

As you can tell, cabling services have a large variety of applications beyond interpersonal communications. We can set up what you need, whether it has to do with lighting, cameras, or scanners. With Amtel, we provide a full system blueprint before any of the cables are ever ran. For example, like with the Wiess Energy Hall Exhibit, we were able to hide their cables using black cables to blend in with the wall. We also found a position along the wall to hide it. Or if you need specific lighting, we will make that happen. Whatever you need and however you need it, we offer options to find what suits best for you.
