The Uses Of A VoIP Business Phone System

Choosing a phone system for a company is becoming more and more open in recent years, now that VoIP business phone packages have introduced another big choice into the market. These internet-based systems come with numerous advantages and a few disadvantages, and choosing between traditional phone lines or broadband calling comes down to both the size of the company and what exactly its needs are.

Traditional phone lines utilize copper wires that are pre-installed in nearly every building. Broadband communication systems utilize the internet and handle data and speech through that connection. Copper wires offer extra stability, as the phone company keeps these powered, as opposed to the utility company. This can be a big deal if power is lost, as VoIP business phones will be unable to function.

There is, however, a great deal of money to be saved if the building is set up to handle broadband calling properly. Because both internet and speech data is generated from the same line, a company will only pay for the broadband connection, instead of paying for both the phone and internet costs separately. More costs can be cut down if the company conducts routine long-distance calling, as the internet does not differentiate between local and long distance communication like standard phone rates do.

Voice over Internet Protocol phone systems can be problematic in a couple of niche but important areas of notice. Calling 911, for instance, will not yield any location information to the operator as the phone system uses IP addresses, rather than regular phone numbers. They can also be prone to viruses and hacking, though recent encryption methods have helped to mitigate this problem.
